Arrecife gives Leticia Padilla ten days to present allegations against her move to the group of non-attached members

The mayoress has issued a decree based on a report from the municipal secretary, which responds to the requirement that Podemos has been making for almost a year

The Arrecife City Council has initiated the process for councilor Leticia Padilla to move to the group of non-attached members, as requested a year ago by Podemos, after the councilor left the party.

The purple formation presented a first letter to the Consistory in March 2021 and reiterated it in November, demanding that the councilor leave the Lanzarote en Pie - Sí Podemos group, which was the name they gave to the electoral coalition between Podemos and Equo. Now, the current secretary of the Corporation has just issued a report, which has already led to a decree signed this Thursday by the mayoress, Ástrid Pérez.

In the decree, Pérez gives Leticia Padilla ten days to present allegations and orders that the entire file be transferred to her, which includes the report from the municipal secretary, the requirements presented by her former party and a letter from the Electoral Board.

"Doña Laetitia Christelle Padilla ran in the local elections of May 26, 2019 in the candidacy presented by the electoral coalition Podemos Equo, in the municipality of Arrecife, in accordance with the proclamation made by the Arrecife Zone Electoral Board", stated the letter sent to the City Council by this body.

In this regard, the mayoress's decree also cites the laws and rulings of the Supreme Court to which Podemos referred, which establish that "the abandonment of a municipal political group corresponding to the candidacy for which it was elected entails inclusion as a non-attached member."

In the case of Padilla, after leaving Podemos, she alleged that she ran in the elections for Lanzarote en Pie and therefore could not be considered a defector. In this regard, the Electoral Board emphasizes that LEP-Sí Podemos was the "name of the coalition's acronym", but that the parties that ran were Podemos and Equo. Leticia Padilla was a member of the former and was even its general secretary in Arrecife, although a year ago she decided to leave the formation, along with other Podemos officials.
