The Arrecife City Council has remodeled and improved the cruise ship arrival area in the vicinity of El Charco de San Ginés. Specifically, several changes have been made to Juan de Quesada Street to address the needs that have been identified.
The Councilor for Tourism, Commerce, and Consumption, Rafael Juan González, explained that a green lane has been created on this street to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility. "On many occasions, vehicles poorly parked in the lot in that area did not leave space for wheelchairs to circulate on the sidewalk, nor for baby carriages," the councilor indicated.
The taxi rank has also been relocated, and the signage and image of the tourist information office have been improved. In this regard, González explained that the department he leads has been "carrying out a series of actions for months" to promote tourism and to offer visitors information about the city, its activities, its natural, heritage, landscape, gastronomic, and commercial resources.
"It is important that tourists arriving on a cruise ship have all the information they need about the capital in their first contact with the island, which is none other than the tourist information point on Juan de Quesada Street, where we currently have two professionals attending to cruise passengers," the councilor highlighted, whose goal is for cruise passengers arriving in Arrecife to "visit the city."
An information officer at the bus interchange
But, in addition, the councilor stated that all those tourists who arrive in the capital from Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise, or Playa Blanca, as well as from other locations on the island, must also be taken into account. "The first thing they encounter when entering Arrecife is the bus interchange. That is why we are confident that in a short space of time, we will be able to move one of the information officers from the Juan de Quesada office to that point," he announced.
These tourist information officers belong to the Canary Employment Service's agreement program with local corporations in the 2013 financial year.
