The Department of Social Welfare, Immigration, and Equality of the Arrecife City Council, headed by Maite Corujo, celebrated this Monday the closing ceremony of the annual course of Spanish for Foreigners, where the students' efforts were recognized with the presentation of diplomas, culminating in a session of Stories to love each other better, led by storyteller Vicki dos Santos accompanied by cellist Aarón Márquez.

“Language learning is an essential bridge for inclusion, social and labor integration, coexistence, and respect between cultures. In a municipality like Arrecife, where **more than 100 nationalities** coexist, we have the responsibility to provide tools that break down language barriers and promote enriching coexistence,” emphasized Maite Corujo to the twenty or so participants in this new course.

The councilwoman announced that "throughout 2026, we will continue to offer this free Spanish learning service, aimed at the non-Spanish-speaking population of the municipality with the objective of providing participants with basic linguistic tools, as well as promoting values of gender equality, access to resources, and knowledge of the host culture."

Key tool”

“From the Department of Social Welfare, Equality, and Immigration of the Arrecife City Council, we have worked to make this service a stable reality, because we firmly believe that inclusion begins with communication. Our commitment is to continue strengthening this key tool for the personal and social development of those who choose Arrecife as their home,” he added.

Held at the Arrecife Civic Center, the event concluded with a performance of ‘Stories to Love Each Other Better,’ a proposal based on tales that promote values such as respect, empathy, equality, and emotional management. Through simple and relatable stories, these tales invite reflection on coexistence, good treatment, and the building of healthier and more conscious relationships, reinforcing the message of inclusion that inspires this municipal program.
