Arrecife will premiere at the end of this year a new place to promote citizen participation. The facilities, which will host meetings of groups and associations, will be next to the Argana Alta Sports Hall, the neighborhood with the largest resident population in the Arrecife and Lanzarote area.

The mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, together with the Councilor for Youth and Citizen Participation, Eli Merino Betancor, and the vice president and Councilor for Public Works of the Cabildo, Jacobo Medina, announced this Tuesday the place where these new municipal facilities will be built, in premises of about 200 square meters inside the current building of the Argana Alta Sports Hall.

According to the mayor, the adaptation of these works has already been awarded for about 110,000 euros and the construction company has a period of about five months to adapt the premises, which are currently only in structure.

The Councilor for Youth and Citizen Participation, Eli Merino, explained that these municipal facilities are part of the project that her area and the government group launched from the beginning of this term to promote citizen participation. Thus, she remarked, that the plenary session last Friday unanimously approved by all political forces the new Citizen Participation regulations, which will be submitted to the mandatory process of public exposure. "With the adaptation of this public place, we bring the neighborhoods closer and allow groups, associations and associations to have facilities for their activities and meetings," she said.

Financing with European funds from the Edusi program

The vice president of the Cabildo and Councilor for Public Works, Jacobo Medina, stressed that the tender for this work has been carried out, at the request of the City Council, from the first island institution charged to the Edusi program, of the European Union. The tender was published last autumn and in these weeks its award and contracting has been resolved.

Finally, the mayor stated that during this term many public investments will be made in all the neighborhoods of Arrecife, and pointed out that this new place is in line with the new equipment and facilities that the City Council has underway in the Argana Alta neighborhood. "During this term there will be many works that the residents of Argana Alta will see in their neighborhood, and in other neighborhoods of the municipality. The investment plans are already underway," said Astrid Pérez.

The City Council has also announced that it is working to reopen the Argana Alta Sports Hall to the public. In an annex of this building is where the new premises for citizen participation meetings are adapted.
