The Department of Social Welfare of the Arrecife City Council, led by Maite Corujo, has awarded the company Asidma Servicios Sociales S.L. the home help service of the capital of Lanzarote for the next two years. The total amount amounts to 2,044,129.6 euros (1,910,401.50 euros and 133,728.10 euros of IGIC), increasing the amount compared to last year (1,090,129.7 euros).

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has stated that "from now on, services for the elderly and dependents will be increased, since with this new contract, we will reinforce care for the residents who need it most" and adds that "our Government group is characterized by being closer to the citizens and supporting families who care for their elders with the help of home care." Meanwhile, he added that "the new characteristics of this tender allow us to guarantee these services."

The capital's head of Finance and Contracting, Echedey Eugenio, signed the contract with the awarded company this week and recalled that the Arrecife City Council plenary session approved on September 11 in an extraordinary session to assume the home help service as its own, thus giving legal support to said service, according to the Law approved in 2017. "With this we can be sure that no person in this municipality who needs home assistance will be left without it, because it will allow us better management of resources," he says.

Home help is a basic provision of the Social Welfare Area, of a complementary and transitional nature that provides care and attention to people and/or families who cannot fend for themselves; a help service so that dependent people can carry out their daily tasks.

"For us, it is vital that all people who need this service can have it and have a better quality of life," said the Councilor for Social Welfare, Maite Corujo, who recalls that the first level of care of public social services is in the city councils.

"As we assured at the time, we will continue to provide care to the 230 people of all ages who currently use this aid in the municipality," the councilor stressed.

The presentation of home help, due to its preventive, socio-educational, assistance and integrating nature, pursues the following objectives:

  • Provide the necessary care to people or family groups with difficulties in their autonomy.
  • Prevent situations of personal and social deterioration.
  • Promote the acquisition of skills that allow a more autonomous development in daily life.
  • Enable integration into the usual environment of coexistence.
  • Support family groups in their care responsibilities.
  • Avoid or delay, as long as it is not necessary, admission to residential centers or establishments.

The priority purposes of the Home Help Service are: prevent or compensate for the loss of autonomy, providing the necessary help to carry out daily life activities; Prevent unnecessary admissions to institutions; Achieve a healthy family coexistence framework or a positive relationship in the environment, avoiding situations of isolation; Collaborate with the family in cases where it, by itself, cannot fully meet the daily life needs of the user; Promote the maintenance of the person in their home; Prevent personal situations that may motivate physical, mental or social marginalization; Promote the development of users' capacities; and Provide services of an assistance, educational, preventive and integrating nature, not having to supplant family responsibility.
