Arrecife approves the agreement for the management of the Islote de Fermina by the Tourist Centers

The Governing Board of Arrecife approved this Friday the collaboration agreement between the City Council, the Cabildo of Lanzarote, and the EPEL of the Tourist Centers for the management and implementation of the Islote de Fermina, by the latter.

The mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, positively values that “finally an agreement has been signed, the result of consensus between the Arrecife City Council and the Cabildo of Lanzarote, for the management of the Islote de la Fermina by the Tourist Centers”. After two years of negotiations with the Cabildo and the Tourist Centers, this important agreement finally sees the light to be able to definitively open the facilities of the Islote de Fermina for the use and enjoyment of all residents and visitors.”

From the Arrecife City Council, they recall that the Consortium itself requested before Coasts “the concession of the extension since August 2019”, however “it was not until June of this year 2021 when the aforementioned department of the Central Government granted it”.

According to what they add from the City Council, by virtue of this agreement, and when the signing takes place between the capital's Consortium, the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Tourist Centers, “the latter will assume the integral management of the Islote de la Fermina and its main activities, Tourism Center, Nautical Leisure Activities, Lanzarote Coastal Observatory and bar restaurant”. 

The objective of the approved agreement, as detailed by Arrecife, is to “improve the efficiency of public management, facilitate the joint use of public means and services, contribute to the realization of activities of public utility and comply with the legislation of budgetary stability and financial sustainability”. 

As established in this agreement, from the City Council they detail that “a Monitoring Commission” will be created, of the document that will be chaired by the mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, with four more members, “two for each signing administration of the agreement that will have a validity of four years”. 

Taking into account the percentage of participation in this agreement, 40 percent Cabildo, 40 percent EPEL and 20 percent City Council, the distribution criterion of the annual result of the exploitation “will be based on those percentages”.
