Arminda Barreto bets on sustainable tourism that implies the recovery of the Primary Sector of Tías

“We will make a "Tourist Incentive Plan" taking into account all the "existing resources" capable of generating "more tourist attractions”

Arminda Barreto proposes in her electoral program for the elections of May 28 different municipal actions that encourage “sustainable tourism that also implies progress in the Primary Sector of Tías”.

Barreto thus bets on “sustainable tourism, in which the focus is on the rehabilitation of what already exists, on the diversification of the tourist offer and on the need to prioritize quality over quantity.”

The Canarian candidate assumes that “a few decades ago the primary sector was the largest source of income in the municipality, but little by little this sector ceased its activity, the crops were abandoned and in the grazing areas buildings were built for tourism, also disappearing for the same reason key elements such as the Matagorda salt flats.”

“But this unstoppable tourist growth has reached its limit and we cannot allow it to continue growing in this way,” argues Barreto, who points out that “this is not something new, since César Manrique himself warned us in his day of what could happen if we continued with this rate of growth.”

Aware of all this, the candidate proposes the development of “sustainable tourism” and argues that “the main tourist attraction of Lanzarote is not only linked to sun and beach.”

On the other hand, the number three on the list of Canarian candidates Christian Hellquist, warns that “we must also take into account that tourism is no longer only focused on Puerto del Carmen, but is increasingly moving towards the center of the municipality with vacation home rentals.”

Therefore, he proposes that “we value the culture and essence of the destination, creating tourist experiences for new travelers.” For this purpose, the candidates announce the preparation of “commercial promotion campaigns aimed especially at tourism, taking advantage of the synergies of the main tourist areas, with a clear orientation towards the
complementarity of these areas.”

“We will make a "Tourist Incentive Plan" with existing resources to generate more tourist attractions”

“We will make a "Tourist Incentive Plan" taking into account all existing natural, cultural, leisure, sports and commercial resources, capable of generating more tourist attractions,” the Canarian candidates highlight.

Among other activities, they highlight the possibility of launching “ecological excursions, which do not damage the environment; the creation of bio-parks; an agricultural and artisan market; and the promotion of music and gastronomy festivals.”

But Nueva Canarias is clear that "we must seek a diversification of the economy that includes the reactivation of the Primary Sector, which allows us to increase the consumption of products from the country - zero kilometer products", they comment.

To this end, “we will promote marketing spaces for local producers; we will carry out continuous campaigns to promote local products, aimed at publicizing their quality, while at the same time we will value them,” Barreto remarks.

"Artisanal fishing will also have its importance within the Canarian project," they argue. “It is not only about diversifying the economy, but about recovering a sector that defines us as a people, promoting it with sector improvement plans that will be carried out jointly with the fishermen of La Tiñosa, to respond to the demands that they have been demanding for some time,” concludes Arminda Barreto.
