The Plenary Session of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has unanimously approved this Tuesday the Regulatory Bases for the granting of subsidies to non-profit entities for the development of projects aimed at social intervention, a key tool that seeks to promote social action on the island, reinforcing the work of those organizations that provide support to people and groups in vulnerable situations.

These subsidies will be granted in a competitive regime, thus guaranteeing transparency and objectivity in the process, in order to prioritize projects with the greatest social impact.

The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, states that "through this framework we respond directly to the most urgent social needs. Lanzarote and La Graciosa must advance from social justice and equal opportunities, and these subsidies represent a powerful and effective tool for this. We value the enormous work carried out by social entities and with this support we want to reinforce their work and ensure that no vulnerable group is left behind."

Betancort added that "we are committed to a management model based on transparency, competition and responsibility, which allows us to work hand in hand with those who are on the front line addressing the most complex realities."

In the same vein, the Minister of Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, stressed that "we have worked to build open, clear bases with objective criteria that allow social entities to participate in equal conditions. Lanzarote has a solid, committed and professional associative fabric, and these subsidies are born to support and enhance their daily efforts."

Acuña also stressed that "collective well-being is not built only from institutions. We need the drive and involvement of social entities, and these subsidies are a way to forge stable alliances that generate a real and lasting impact on people's lives."

Areas of action

The aid will be used to finance projects that address different lines of social intervention:

Children and family: Programs of psychosocial, educational and cultural support for minors and their families; temporary shelter for young people at risk; and community development activities for children and adolescents.

Equality, gender violence and diversity: Prevention and awareness initiatives, direct care and reception of victims, as well as specific programs for minors affected by these problems.

Addictions: Projects for prevention, treatment, recovery and socio-labor integration for people with addictions.

Disability and dependency: Specialized services, family support, accompaniment to caregivers, activities in periods of non-coverage, prevention of unwanted loneliness and measures aligned with the Island Strategy for Accessibility and Inclusion.

Social inclusion: Interventions with people in situations of exclusion or homelessness, as well as comprehensive community inclusion plans.

Immigration: Legal, psychological and social guidance services for migrants, integration programs for women, children and families, and projects that promote cultural cohesion.

Other social projects: Initiatives that address urgent basic needs, psychosocial support for cancer patients or people in mourning, improvement of quality of life in chronic diseases, maintenance of dining rooms and community spaces, or improvement of social services and equipment.

Each entity may submit up to three projects per call, and initiatives that are already covered by other public programs or services will not be financed. The corresponding call will be published soon in the Official Gazette of the Province, at which time the deadline for submitting applications will be opened.
