The Agency for the Protection of the Urban and Natural Environment (APMUN) has imposed two fines worth 45,000 euros on an island resident for committing two infractions classified as serious in the Waste Law of the Canary Islands and committed in the municipality of Arrecife.
One of the sanctions, amounting to 30,000 euros, responds to the abandonment of hazardous waste, such as vehicles in a state of disrepair without being decontaminated, used oil drums, and oil filters. The other, of 15,000 euros, is due to the abandonment of non-hazardous waste such as household furniture, appliances, iron, plastics, cables, tires, or similar materials.
Likewise, the Agency for the Protection of the Environment orders the affected party to, within one month, "correct the illegal situation created as a consequence of the commission of the infractions, by removing and delivering the abandoned waste to an authorized manager, and must prove such circumstance before the APMUN".
The infractions committed are sanctioned in the Waste Law of the Canary Islands, in addition to fines, with the temporary, total or partial cessation of activities and suspension of authorizations, where applicable; temporary, total or partial closure of the facilities; and temporary professional disqualification as a waste manager.
APMUN published this Monday the announcement of the sanction in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, "as it has not been possible to notify the interested party, in accordance with the Law of Legal Regime of Public Administrations and the Common Administrative Procedure".
