An Education technician will prepare a report on the adaptation of Arrecife schools to the new electrical regulations. This was announced by the City Council, after the Councilor for Education and Sports, Paca Toledo, accompanied a technician from the General Directorate of Educational Centers and Infrastructure, Heriberto Díaz, on a tour of some schools in the capital last Tuesday.
This visit responds to the commitment acquired by the Deputy Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuela Armas, after the meeting held two weeks ago with the mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera. In this meeting, the mayor conveyed to the Deputy Minister his concern about the situation of the Mercedes Medina, Capellanía, Titerroy and Adolfo Topham schools, whose electrical installations are not adapted to the new regulations.
According to Paca Toledo, "the works in the Mercedes Medina, Capellanía and Adolfo Topham will not be such a problem, but not those of the Titerroy school, which will involve a fairly high investment. And in order to face it, we will request the collaboration of the Ministry of Education".
Extension of the term
The councilor has sent a message of tranquility to the educational community of these four centers, assuring that the Ministry of Industry has extended the deadline for adapting the facilities to the new regulations. "Industry has understood that it is a situation that affects numerous schools throughout the Canary Islands and that it has arrived at a difficult economic time for the City Councils," Toledo pointed out.
She also highlighted "the excellent disposition" of the new Deputy Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuela Armas, from Lanzarote. "We must thank her both for the immediacy with which she answered our call, and for the interest she has taken in solving the problem of these schools," she said.
