The General Directorate of Emergencies and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands has declared a state of alert, from 00.00 hours this Monday until 00.00 hours on Tuesday, due to coastal phenomena, as swell from the northwest is expected with waves that could reach 5 meters on the coasts of all the Islands.
The alert situation is declared according to the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has declared an orange alert for tomorrow throughout the Archipelago with significant risk due to poor sea conditions, which will affect the north coasts of Tenerife, Gran Canaria and La Gomera, the north and east faces of La Palma and the islands of Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and El Hierro.
Aemet's coastal forecast for tomorrow Monday in La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and Tenerife is northwest force 5 to 6 and variable force three to four on the southeast coasts of La Palma, with strong waves and ripples, swell from the northwest with waves of up to five meters.
In coastal waters of Gran Canaria, northwest force four to six and variable force three is expected on the southeast coast, with strong waves and ripples. Swell from the northwest with waves of between four and five meters.
In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the prediction is northwest force five to six, strong waves with isolated areas of rough seas to the north of both islands and ripples on the east coasts and swell from the northwest with waves of up to five meters.
Aemet predicts that the situation will begin to subside from Tuesday and lowers the alert level from orange to yellow for this day.
