Aena has awarded the installation of 106 metal detectors in footwear in 15 airports of the network to the company Tecosa, Siemens group, for a total of 828,732.32 euros, of which the islands will correspond in the aerodromes of Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife South and Fuerteventura.

Throughout 2010, 81 teams will be located and the remaining 25 during the first quarter of 2011. The new detectors join or expand the 133 units already installed between 2008 and 2009 in the airports of Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Bilbao, Alicante, Seville and Santiago.

The metal detectors in footwear are security equipment that will be placed in passenger and airport personnel inspection filters. They are based on the same technology as metal detector arches, and will be used to examine the footwear of security control users.

The installation of this equipment will make the process through the filters more comfortable and fluid, although it will not prevent some travelers from having to take off their shoes.
