Alternativa Ciudadana has denounced that the Cabildo of Lanzarote "has postponed for more than a month" a motion to establish a commitment to support those affected by the mortgage. Thus, it has assured that the first corporation received on February 8 a "motion-proposal" from the City Council of Pájara, which in turn was sent by the Fecam, to show the support of all public authorities "towards those affected by the legal framework that regulates the mortgage system".
However, in the ordinary plenary session of February 8, "despite being a matter included in the agenda, it was left on the table". Thus, Alternativa has assured that the justification was for "not having had time to analyze and adapt" the motion. "We believe that at that time there was time to include this motion in the agenda. There was and should have been time to study it sufficiently in advance, as AC-25m did," this party pointed out.
In addition, Alternativa has denounced that "instead of taking up this issue as soon as possible, after this plenary session another ordinary session has been held, as well as three extraordinary sessions in which this issue has not been included in the agenda either." "Tackling a social drama that has affected and affects so many Canarian families should be an issue that is treated with imperative priority," he criticized.
Therefore, Alternativa has decided to raise this issue in the next plenary session so that "once and for all the Cabildo of Lanzarote takes a position on a matter of vital importance for the population." Among the measures included in the motion-proposal were support for the Platform of People Affected by Mortgages (PAH); the request to the Spanish Government to modify the current legal framework that regulates the mortgage market to limit the social effects of foreclosures for non-payment; support for dation in payment or the insolvency procedure for individuals in which deadlines and extensions are established to make payment more flexible.
The proposal also includes "extinguishing the contracts and withdrawing the Cabildo funds that the Cabildo may have in those financial institutions that from the date of this agreement continue to carry out mortgage foreclosures," Alternativa recalled.
