The Center for Equality and Attention to Women (CIAM) joined for the second consecutive year the call made by the Association of Men for Gender Equality (AHIGE) and celebrated the "wheel of men against sexist violence." This act took place last Friday, in front of the old Cabildo of Arrecife.

José Carlos Hernández, an athlete from Lanzarote who participated in the London Olympic Games, read the manifesto this year. Thus, he pointed out that "gender violence is a scandalous reality that is spreading more and more every day and affects the entire society." "It is the daily evidence of our contradictions and an immediate requirement to reflect on the problems that are at its origin," he stated.

For his part, the Minister of Social Welfare of the Cabildo, Marciano Acuña, pointed out that with this action men "can publicly position themselves against sexist violence, making visible to society and, especially to the male collective, the existence of men who are actively involved in equality and against violence." The first vice president of the Cabildo, Joaquín Caraballo, also attended this event; the Councilor for Citizen Participation and Biosphere Reserve, Juan Antonio de la Hoz; and the Councilor for Public Works, José Antonio Gutiérrez, among other authorities who wanted to join this event.

The attendees observed a minute of silence around a white ribbon in memory of the victims and as a symbol of rejection of sexist murders. Finally, Marciano Acuña recalled and invited all those present to participate on November 25 in the events that will be carried out on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
