A total of 185 people will ensure the safety of the 1,600 participants of the XXI edition of Ironman Lanzarote, which will take place this Saturday. The Government Delegation and the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote met this Tuesday in a Security Board to agree on the device that will remain attentive throughout the test, which this year has broken all participation records.
Up to 85 vehicles or devices will participate in this self-protection plan, provided by the Consortium itself, Civil Projection of several municipalities, the Civil Guard, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Red Cross, REN (Rescue and Emergencies of the North) and Emerlan, among other organizations, as reported by the Cabildo through a statement.
The participants will be supported by up to 8 boats, 3 jet skis and 25 canoes in the swimming test in the sea. For the land tests, the 180 kilometers by bicycle and the 42.2 of the marathon, 22 all-terrain vehicles, 5 basic support ambulances and one advanced support ambulance, in addition to three cars from the organization and a helicopter, will ensure their integrity.
Likewise, to guarantee the correct development of the test, in the vicinity of the finish line area there will be, as in other editions, a field hospital. There have also been two advanced command posts and 12 communication equipment, among other devices.
On the other hand, as in other editions, the participation of volunteers is very important, which this year has 157 people. There will also be 24 emergency professionals, provided by the Security and Salvamar Consortium of Lanzarote, the Government of the Canary Islands, and the organizer of the test that provides four doctors. The Civil Guard has three divers from its Special Group of Underwater Activities, GEAS, as reported by the Cabildo.
Six roads closed
Six roads in different municipalities will be closed to facilitate the passage of the triathletes. Specifically, the LZ-10 will be closed, from the intersection of Teseguite to Haría. The alternative will be to take the LZ-404 to connect with the LZ-1, in Guatiza. The entrance for the residents of Los Valles will be through El Mojón.
The LZ-408 will also be closed to traffic from Nazaret to the exit at the Teguise Agroindustrial Complex, as well as the road from Ye to Arrieta and from Ye to the Mirador del Río. The LZ-704 road will be partially closed, in which only the lane in the direction of El Golfo will remain open. In addition, it is recommended that the entrance to the Timanfaya National Park be made from Mancha Blanca. The Hoya Limpia road, in Tías, as well as the accesses to dirt roads will be "totally closed".
The insular director of the General State Administration in Lanzarote, María Dolores Luzardo, was also present at this Security Board, who assured that the security of this sporting event is characterized by "the important collaboration between administrations" and between the different emergency teams.
The insular director also wanted to make a call for collaboration to the citizens to comply with the indications of both the organization and the Security Forces so that the Ironman of Lanzarote develops in "the best possible way".
