A teaching guide will attempt to bring Education for Citizenship closer to schools on the island

The Councilor for Citizen Participation of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Lourdes Bernal, and the multidisciplinary team of Tágora Social presented this Tuesday a new work tool aimed at reinforcing values and forms of coexistence by bringing students closer to apparently complex issues from a playful and close to reality way. The presentation was carried out in front of the representatives of all the educational centers of the island.

This didactic guide to approaching Citizenship Education, prepared by the Tágora Social team, aims to clearly introduce, from a practical and real vision, concepts and techniques of a subject that today remains unknown to many. Thus, the main purpose of this document is to facilitate teaching work by offering in a single manual adaptable to specific needs, and which includes numerous pedagogical material to achieve a true interactive classroom.

During the elaboration of this material, it has become clear that the evolution of education and the adaptation to new changes involves strengthening social and citizen competence, the formation of a democratic citizenship, the meaning of citizen rights and duties, as well as new challenges such as multiculturalism, equality, conflict resolution or responsible consumption.

With this tool, which differs from others because it is born from the practice itself and each paragraph that integrates it has been felt in a very specific reality, in the I.E.S Arrecife, the Cabildo de Lanzarote not only intends to get up to date, integrating all its areas in the same purpose to improve the educational situation, but also bets on incorporating this guide in each educational center as a strategy that invites to talk little by little about a greater social cohesion and achieve with it a greater equality of opportunities in the island.
