A dozen students from various institutes on the island of Lanzarote held a small protest on Wednesday morning to complain about education cuts. Shouting "Honk for Education", they stood on a crosswalk on José Antonio Street to ask cars to honk their horns in defense of education. However, they only occupied the crosswalk when "the traffic light was red."
"We are claiming our right as students due to the cuts in education, which are affecting us a lot and are also lowering the quality of education," complained Alejandro Segismundo, one of the students. "We wanted to let everyone know that we are outraged and that what is happening is very corrupt. If they continue like this, the preparation of students will decrease a lot," these students warned.
The students managed to get many vehicles to honk as they passed and thus support them in their claim. "If we are the future of Spain and they are already taking away our rights, the few who manage to get ahead will leave the country. That will be a brain drain, as is already happening," they pointed out.
