A couple has to be evicted after their house in Playa Honda flooded

A house located at 49 Bote Street in Playa Honda has been completely flooded as a result of the heavy rainfall. The couple living in this house has had to be evicted.

According to the mayor of San Bartolomé, Marcial Martín, "more than a meter of water" entered the house and the furniture "has been destroyed". "Everything is lost", says Martín.

According to the mayor of San Bartolomé, the water that entered the house has already been pumped out and, at this moment, the City Council workers are carrying out cleaning tasks.

The couple residing in the house has had to be evicted and will spend the night in a hotel.

Collapse of a retaining wall

Also, the company Azulejos Insulares, located in the industrial area of Playa Honda, has seen one of its retaining walls collapse, as a result of the storm that is hitting the island.

The collapse of the wall caused water to enter the interior of the company, although, according to Marcial Martín, "no significant damage has been recorded".

A ditch towards the sea

On the other hand, in Playa Honda, a ditch has also had to be opened towards the sea in the area of the Mesana restaurant. According to Martín, "a large puddle of salt and fresh water" had formed, and it was necessary to give it an outlet to the sea.

The road from San Bartolomé to Güime has also been affected by the rains and has had to be closed because there was debris and stones on it.

In addition, according to Martín, many sand coverings that were active in the La Vega-Mácher area have been broken. The mayor of San Bartolomé explains that he has already informed the Cabildo of this fact so that they can find a solution.

Finally, an "important" Inalsa breakdown has also been recorded in the general pipeline of Playa Honda, which "has already been fixed", according to Martín.

The mayor explained that the emergency device was activated on Monday night, which has allowed them to act "more quickly" and that many of the problems that have occurred "have already been resolved".
