Two sisters from Yaiza revive the donation campaign to face the rare disease they suffer from

Both minors were diagnosed in 2022 with the same rare disease that killed their older brother

Tracy and Carmen

In March 2022, Tracy, a girl of just 13 years old, began to show the same symptoms of a devastating disease that had affected her older brother, Christian, who died in August 2021. It is progressive myoclonic epilepsy Lafora, a rare and incurable disease that progresses rapidly and that, in Christian's case, resulted in seizures, swallowing problems and difficulty moving. A few months later, in June 2022, her sister Carmen also tested positive for the same disease, which has plunged the family into a new wave of anguish and desolation.

Tracy and Carmen are not just two young people facing a harsh reality; they are passionate athletes, full of life and dreams. Tracy, with her indomitable spirit, excels in sports, while Carmen, a brilliant student, aspires to become a surgeon. However, the shadow of the disease has begun to affect their emotional state and daily activities. The fear of seizures has prevented them from attending high school and practicing their favorite sports, such as basketball and artistic gymnastics, which used to be their great passions.

Tracy and Carmen's situation requires urgent psychological attention, as their parents, Giovanna and Lucio, feel that the weight of suffering is overwhelming. The possibility of losing their two daughters to the same disease that took their older son is a pain they cannot bear. The progression of the disease requires parents to be available to them 24 hours a day, a challenge that is complicated by the lack of resources and support from institutions.

The family is at a crossroads, trying to cope with the grief for Christian while facing a new battle for the lives of Tracy and Carmen. The lack of time and resources to meet the immediate needs of their daughters has left Giovanna and Lucio devastated. The struggle to obtain the necessary support for the care of their girls is becoming increasingly critical, and time is a constant enemy.

Given this situation, any financial assistance that can be provided to the family will be essential to "buy" quality time and attention for Tracy and Carmen. The crowdfunding campaign argues that "the solidarity of the community becomes vital to provide them with the necessary support on this path full of uncertainties. Every small contribution counts and can make a difference in the lives of these two young women who, despite their suffering, continue to fight for their dreams".
