Two roads in Lanzarote are among the interurban roads with the most accidents in Las Palmas. Specifically, between the LZ-1 and LZ-2, 53 accidents were recorded throughout 2023. This is according to data from Mechanical Reports, a company specializing in pre-purchase inspections of used cars, based on data from the annual consolidated accident data of the General Directorate of Traffic.
With data from the province of Las Palmas, each accident generates an average of 1.4 victims in the province, which also counts injuries that do not require hospitalization.
In addition, 85% of fatal victims die within 24 hours after the accident, and 93% of the injured do not require hospitalization.
This study states that "most accidents occur in a context of fluid traffic (71%), with a road surface in good condition (90%), with sufficient natural light (72%), clear weather (88%), and good visibility (90%), so attention to the road is essential at all times."
Sergio Arboledas, general manager of Mechanical Reports, explained that "although most accidents occur on urban roads, it is important to note that their severity is greater on interurban roads, as the vehicle's speed is higher."
The analysis of Mechanical Reports with DGT microdata reveals a fact to reflect on: most accidents occur in optimal driving conditions. Also, two out of three accidents occur on roads with a straight layout.
Arboledas continued, pointing out that "these data lead us to think that many accidents occur due to distractions or lack of attention to the road. When we drive, all our senses must be focused on the road and not somewhere else, because we are never alone on the asphalt. It's not just about us, but about the other travelers who accompany us on the road."
