The Charco de San Ginés hosted the celebration of the traditional this Saturday
Jolateros race, which brought together around this emblematic area of the
capital to numerous young people who enjoyed a splendid morning in a
privileged place of Arrecife. The
mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, and the Councilor for Youth, Housing
and Environment, Joel Delgado, who toured the marked section of the
race with respective jolateros, although they did not compete.
Those who did compete were the children. In this sense, the winner of the
Jolateros race for up to 11 years old was Juan Cabrera Vázquez,
with Pedro Cabrera Rodson in second place. Likewise, and as far as
the age group between 12 and 16 years old is concerned, Ignacio Di Candio
obtained the first place in the competition, followed by Carlos Curbelo
Cabrera.
In the act, which took place throughout the morning of this Saturday
and which had the collaboration of the House of Fear, were also
present the first deputy mayor of the consistory, José Montelongo;
the councilors of Social Services, Parks and Gardens, and Finance,
Carmen Sáez, David Rodríguez, and Pedro Viera, respectively, as well as
other councilors of the capital City Council.
The Jolateros regattas are considered a traditional game, and
they have always been practiced in the Charco de San Ginés de Arrecife,
using the marine environment and materials that could be at hand in the
own coastline.
