The Virgen de los Volcanes school in Tinajo has been distinguished for its special "work, effort and adherence" to the Director Plan for coexistence and improvement of security in educational centers and their environments. The director of the center, Julia Padrón Mesa, received this distinction on September 22 in Madrid, in an event presided over by the Secretary of State for Security, Francisco Martínez Vázquez.

In that act, another 9 educational centers and ten members of the State Security Forces and Corps were distinguished for their adherence to the Plan whose objective, they emphasize from the Tinajo City Council, "is none other than to improve the police resources available for the prevention of crime and protection of victims".

From the Tinajo City Council, the mayor Jesús Machín and the rest of the municipal corporation have congratulated the management bodies of this school for their involvement and their maintenance of good work, good manners and, of course, distinctively congratulate all its students who are the true protagonists of such distinction. In the words of the Mayor of Tinajo, "it is a pride for the municipal corporation to have a center where the protagonists of the day to day are the respect, coexistence and exemplary behavior of all its students and teachers".

"A valuable pedagogical and prevention instrument"

During that act, which was held at the Mater Purissima School in Madrid, Francisco Martínez presented the distinctions to the agents and educational centers that participate in this police plan, pointing out that, hand in hand with schools and families, "they make it possible for the Director Plan to have consolidated as a valuable pedagogical and prevention instrument, which we expand and improve each year".

The Secretary of State for Security explained that, each school year, a group of professionals from the National Police and the Civil Guard go to the classrooms of educational centers to share with children and young people first-hand "their experience and their ability to listen to them and guide them on matters of the utmost importance for their personal development".

Specifically, Martínez detailed that, during the 2014-2015 academic year, the State Security Forces and Corps have taught more than 7,000 talks on bullying within the framework of this Plan; 800 on youth gangs and almost 15,000 talks on the risks of information and communication technologies. Likewise, some 4,500 have been taught about the dangers of drug and alcohol consumption and more than 3,000 to prevent, raise awareness and eradicate violence against women.
