The progressive increase in the number of visits and the rise recorded in sales are "unequivocal" signs for the Yaiza Town Hall that the Uga market "has acquired another dimension." Thus, the Department of Agriculture and Livestock of the Yaiza Town Hall, with the support of Social Revitalization and other municipal areas, has made a "strong" commitment to the recova, encouraging workers in the primary sector to offer organic products and incorporate new genres with the aim of positioning the site as an attractive meeting point during Saturdays and Sundays.
The Town Hall also revitalizes the market by programming cultural activities and inviting artisans to locate themselves in the surroundings of the square, to encourage the increasingly common weekend shopping days. "The initiative, in light of the results, has been a success, but it has a lot of room for improvement and that is what we are working on," acknowledges councilor José Antonio Rodríguez.
The first decision was to organize the interior spaces and clean up the facade to then convince farmers and ranchers of the market's potential as a sales area without intermediaries. The recova is located next to the church of Uga and opens to the public on Saturdays and Sundays, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Residents of Yaiza, visitors from other municipalities and tourists can find in Uga artisan pastries, fresh bread made in a wood oven, fruits and vegetables, cheese, fish, wines, liquors, jams, delicious and healthy organic products and handicrafts. Also, this weekend you could see tents on the facade with sales of handicrafts and curiosities that gave more life to the commercial activity.
