The town councils of the island wanted to express their condolences for the death of the mayor of San Bartolomé, Alexis Tejera Lemes.
“With a conciliatory and open-minded attitude, he has maintained excellent relations of respect and collaboration with the rest of the political forces represented in the municipality he has led, and of understanding with other institutions on the Island, regardless of political color”, said the mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, who regrets “the loss of a young person who had much to contribute to Lanzarote and with an admirable strength that will leave a deep void in his municipality and among all the people of Lanzarote”.
The capital's City Council has called a minute of silence this Tuesday, November 16, at 12:00 hours, at the doors of the City Hall, where all the members of the municipal corporation will "show their condolences for such a sad loss".
The Yaiza City Council, for its part, also wanted to show its condolences for the loss of Alexis Tejera. “In such a difficult situation for his loved ones, I only wish them strength and resignation to try to cope with a moment of great pain. May he rest in peace”, declared the southern mayor, Óscar Noda.
In addition, Yaiza has decreed an official day of mourning, in a sign of mourning, suspends the public events scheduled for this Tuesday, November 16, and the flags of the municipal buildings will fly at half-staff.

From Tías, the mayor and party colleague of Tejera, José Juan Cruz, has also shown his "deep condolences" for the death of a "friend and mayor". "The Tías City Council accompanies in the feeling of regret, pain and sadness to all the family and loved ones of Alexis Tejera, who leaves an indelible mark of kindness, integrity, courage and devotion to his people and his people", highlights the City Council in a statement.
In addition, he has announced that the municipality will observe a day of mourning, and the ordinary plenary session scheduled for this Tuesday has been suspended.
