The Tías City Council recognized Agapita González Hernández on International Women's Day. This nearly 100-year-old resident was honored for "her dedication and her struggle." The event took place on Friday, in the Town Hall square and in the plenary hall.

Agapita González is a native of Masdache and went to live in La Vegueta as a child. She will be 100 years old next June 8. Representatives of all political forces and family members of the honoree attended this event, in which the mayor, Pancho Hernández, spoke about the date of March 8.

"Agapita symbolizes the struggle for equality, for bringing families forward, for making the lives of her family possible from where there was nothing. For her dedication to work and life," Hernández acknowledged. The Tías City Council presented her with a commemorative plaque of this day and a bouquet of flowers.

Likewise, Rosangela Da Silva read an institutional manifesto in favor of integration and ribbons for equality were distributed in the vicinity of the Town Hall. Subsequently, inside the municipal soccer field, a large ribbon was launched, coinciding with the match between C.F. Sporting Tías and C.F. Puerto del Carmen.

Throughout this week, a large ribbon advocating for equality, without distinction of sex, religion or race, is being displayed on the main facade of the Town Hall. As part of the celebration of Women's Day, there was also a concert by Guenia Ensemble, at the Tías Municipal Theater.
