The Three Wise Men will be able to distribute two and up to three toys per child among the most disadvantaged in the municipality of Arrecife. This was stated this Monday by the Councilor for Social Services of the City Council, Carmen Sáez, who has expressed her satisfaction with the results obtained with the campaign "A Grandparent's Smile, a Gift for a Child".
The solidarity initiative carried out by the seven associations of
elderly people of Arrecife, together with the association of widows and the day center of the capital, has been a success in terms of participation, with more than 1,000 toys being collected thanks to the donation of individuals and companies, who have been involved in this campaign.
In this sense, Carmen Sáez has thanked the collaboration of the entire
Arrecife society with "A Grandparent's Smile, a Gift for a Child", a project that the elderly decided to launch in view of the
impossibility of the Red Cross to carry out the collection of toys this year, due to the lack of personnel, since it was entirely dedicated to the distribution of food".
In addition, the councilor has recognized the work of these elderly people during the
last month of December, organizing dances and charity events to get more toys. Thus, she cited the 400 euros raised by the Third Age of Altavista thanks to the generosity of its members, who paid the symbolic entrance fee of two euros to attend the charity dance organized within the framework of this same Christmas campaign.
The Councilor for Social Services pointed out that the intention of the
corporation is that next January 6, the approximately 500 children of the
municipality who do not have resources can also receive their gifts.
Packaging workshop
On the other hand, it should be noted that since last Friday, numerous
volunteers participate in the gift wrapping workshop that takes place
develops in the Arrecife Pensioner's Home and whose objective is
deliver the toys well packaged and with the name of the beneficiary to the Three Wise Men, so that they can deliver them to each family without resources.
Finally, Carmen Sáez has congratulated "all the elderly people of the municipality who, through the different associations of elderly people, have participated voluntarily and with great enthusiasm in this toy collection campaign".
