The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has foreseen the arrival of the Atlantic storm of great impact Karlotta. According to its forecast, it has issued a special warning of adverse phenomena from this Thursday until Saturday, February 10. Although it will mostly affect the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, it will also be suffered in the north of the Canary Islands.
Among other effects, the storm Karlotta predicts intense wind with maritime storm and widespread rainfall.
After several weeks where stable weather has predominated and the most outstanding thing has been the formation of low strata that have given rise to fog and, in those areas that have not been affected, very high temperatures for the time of year. The Aemet has announced that the anticyclonic blocking is already beginning to weaken and that this will allow "the entry of atmospheric disturbances".
In the last hours, the first effects of Karlotta are already expected on the Galician coasts, with very strong gusts of wind from the southwest, as well as the first rains. While it will be on Friday when the rains will spread throughout the Peninsula, also affecting the Balearic Islands, Ceuta, Melilla and the north of the Canary Islands.
The precipitations will be weaker and less probable in the Canary Islands, in the Cantabrian area, far northeast and southeast peninsular and Balearic Islands.
