The sculpture in homage to César Manrique is now finished and will be installed "soon" in Arrecife. This was announced by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, after the visit that the president, María Dolores Corujo, made this Tuesday together with the mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, and representatives of the association that was created to promote this initiative, coinciding with the centenary of the artist's birth.
“We really liked the sculpture in homage to César Manrique and we hope to see it soon located in our capital. It is a well-deserved tribute that has been made with respect and quality by Manolo González, an artist recognized worldwide”, said María Dolores Corujo after visiting the Bronzo Foundry, in La Laguna, where the sculpture is currently located.
"The ‘César Manrique Sculpture’ Association has raised funds through the 'For César' campaign, with individual donations to finance the work", they recall from the Cabildo.
The work, made in bronze and weighing more than a ton, has been executed by the Gran Canaria artist Manolo González under the name ‘César's Gaze’. The sculptor's idea, in his own words, is to capture “César's way of seeing the world, so that people can sit down, touch the sculpture and, in turn, it is accessible to anyone who wants to feel the artist”.
"From the first island institution we will always support anything that respectfully preserves the memory of our most international artist", added Corujo.
