The schools of San Bartolomé celebrate the Day of Peace and Non-Violence with numerous events

The educational centers of the municipality of San Bartolomé have carried out different activities with children to celebrate the Day of Peace and Non-Violence. The activities have been worked on throughout the course and each center has held an open day or a trip to a public space, coinciding with the Day of Peace, which was celebrated last Monday, January 30, to exhibit the work done.

CEIP Playa Honda had two types of activities. On Friday, January 27, the approximately 550 primary school students celebrated a solidarity race on Playa Honda Avenue, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. With it, they raised 1,500 euros to collaborate with an NGO. The destination of the money will be the East African region, in the Horn of Africa.

On Monday the 30th, all the students of the center, about 855 students, celebrated different activities in the facilities of the CEIP. The Infant students did a solidarity race, under the name of "The train of good wishes", which consisted of forming a train on the wall by sticking pieces of cardboard, singing the song "The train of colors", later joining "The train of desires" to "The Rose of Peace" by means of footprints on cardboard, in which the students formed a rose, joining the continents on the wall.

During the event, prizes were awarded to the winners of the drawing and poetry contests, awarding one prize per level. The 5th grade children sang the song entitled "I want to have a million friends". All the students of the educational center performed dances from different countries, such as "The Rat Dance" (French dance), the "Seven Jumps" dance (European dances) and the "Indo_Eu" dance (Portuguese dance), ending all the activities with the "Ode to Joy" and the release of doves.

CEIP Ajei, which has a total of 750 students, celebrated a day dedicated to peace, as usual, in the León y Castillo square in San Bartolomé. This is the 21st edition, which CEIP Ajei is celebrating doing this activity.

This year, the square was completely filled to celebrate the day of peace, which began at 11 a.m. and concluded at 1 p.m. In it, poems were read, theatrical performances were held, songs were sung, stories were read and mention was made of personalities who have been a reference in world peace such as Mahatma Gandhi. The day concluded with the release of doves. The event was attended by numerous fathers and mothers, who did not want to miss the event and came to the square to enjoy the programmed activities.

The director of the center thanked for the collaboration provided so that CEIP Ajei raised more than 4,000 euros for the NGO Save de Children.

Other centers

For its part, CEIP El Quintero celebrated a Paralympic solidarity race, in which they raised a total of 721 euros, for the benefit of a Mission in Mozambique. The race was held with obstacles and tests for the disabled, with the participation of students from the Aula en Clave of the IES Salinas de Arrecife, and Senderismo Lanzarote, who performed an exhibition with a joëlette chair, prepared so that disabled people can practice sports such as hiking. In each of the classrooms, stories were told, poems were read and songs were sung, whose central theme was the "Day of Peace and Non-Violence".

CEIP Mª Auxiliadora (Montaña Blanca) held, with the 30 students it has, an explanatory assembly to learn why the day of peace and non-violence is celebrated. The children read the biography of Mahatma Gandhi and each of them drew a dove, which they cut out and took home as a souvenir of the activity, to keep the symbol of peace present in every home. In the schoolyard, they played games alluding to peace such as "The Planets of Peace" and "Peace and War", and made a mural with a huge drawing in which "The Dove of Peace" was represented, to which they added photos. They ended the day singing the song "The kids of the school want Peace". Families were involved and participated in this activity.

CEIP Güime, had the participation of its 28 students in workshops in which they worked on the concept of peace, painted doves that they cut out and pasted on a mural. The children sang songs and read stories and poems, always alluding to the concept worked on.

Eduardo Perera, Councilor for Education of the San Bartolomé City Council, congratulates "the educational centers for the contents worked on, which always promote values, as in this case peace and non-violence, the children for their work, the parents for their participation and the teachers for their involvement and work in favor of peace".
