The reflection on uniting art, culture and tourism focuses the III Biennial Meeting

Once again, the Biennial Off offers a program of parallel activities to bring works of all kinds to the streets and achieve the enjoyment of citizens.

Art, culture and tourism. These are the three pillars of the III Biennial Art Lanzarote Meeting. The central axis of the activities will consist of combining these three intimately linked elements as an alternative to the sun and beach offer. In this sense, the central theme of the Biennial alludes to the model of tourist growth that was created on the Island in the 70s and that resulted in the various centers that enhanced the attractiveness for visitors to Lanzarote.

Thus, the objective of the International Museum of Contemporary Art (MIAC) is to create again a forum for knowledge and debate on culture and contemporary artistic creation, interweaving it with topics of interest to the society of Lanzarote.

This great cultural project can be enjoyed in all corners of the Island. To this end, from October 14 to November 12, the different points of Lanzarote where exhibitions and other cultural events can be held will become the most interesting places on the Island. In this sense, they will offer a wide range of alternative activities for all tastes that can be enjoyed by all those interested in this great initiative.

Biennial Off

Once again, the set of parallel activities is celebrated with the so-called Biennial Off. It is about bringing all the initiatives to the street and flooding daily life with cultural activities. On this occasion, both local artists and those from other parts of the Canary Islands, as well as Holland and Portugal, will conquer the streets.

On the other hand, the cultural offer is diversified towards musical areas, design, fashion, plastic arts, performances and public art. To the initial idea of showing the art of the young people of the Island is added on this occasion the basic motto of the need for cultural infrastructures from the production of the work to the need for adequate spaces to host exhibitions or listen to music.

Alternative

The MIAC Observatory is a project within the III Biennial Art Lanzarote Meeting as a laboratory-workshop in which to propose and debate opinions around art, culture and tourism. From this theme, which has meant for Lanzarote a philosophy of life with the creation of the so-called tourist centers of the Cabildo, the island acquires a new physiognomy. Many questions arise regarding the model to follow and the place occupied by art, culture and tourism in this framework.

Addressing tourism as a value or opportunity for art and culture could be a path, but it also appears as a pollutant and destroyer of heritage and identity. In this crossroads, the challenges that arise must be faced and assess what challenges to face through dialogue and debate.
