The Valterra neighborhood celebrated the big day of its festivities in honor of Our Lady of Carmen this weekend. On Saturday, the image of the Virgin toured the streets of the neighborhood in procession, after the mass that was celebrated in her honor. With the salt carpet already prepared since the eve, the day began with a coming and going of devotees, who approached the church, which was too small to house the people who went there.

On Sunday, the image of the Virgin was paraded by boat along the coast of Arrecife. On its way to Puerto de Naos, there was no shortage of cheers and compliments. One of the most emotional moments was experienced on the esplanade of the Insular Hospital, where the elderly who are admitted there received the Virgin.

The image was mounted this year on board the tuna boat "Ave María Segundo", from the Lanzarote shipowner Aquilino Arrocha, on a tour of the high seas, where she was accompanied by hundreds of people, in addition to the first deputy mayor, José Montelongo, and the Councilor for Festivities of the capital Consistory, Víctor Sanginés, among other members of the corporation.

The boats made their stop, getting as close as possible to the boat carrying the Virgin, to, as every year, make the floral offering for all the deceased sailors. After taking her back to the port, the image returned to the parish where, between fireworks, firecrackers, applause and rockets, she said goodbye to all her parishioners.

This is how the grand finale was put to a festival that, for two weeks, has been celebrated in the José García Hernández Governor's Park, with a multitude of activities aimed at all audiences.
