The port of Playa Blanca registered during the summer months 55% more passengers than last year

The port of Playa Blanca registered during the summer months of 2021 55% more passengers than in the same months of last year, according to figures released by Puertos Canarios. In total, the port had a flow of 327,148 passengers from June to September of this year and 170,185 vehicles.

The managing director of Puertos Canarios, Manuel Ortega, believes that these data "will increase in the coming years after the expansion and improvement of the port of Playa Blanca", which are being carried out by the Puertos Canarios entity, dependent on the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands and "thanks to the co-financing of 85% of the FEDER Operational Program of the Canary Islands (2014-2020)". "One of the main objectives of the expansion is to increase the berthing capacity so that in the future these numbers will be doubled", says Ortega.

Regarding the accumulated from the beginning of the year to the beginning of October, the southern port had a movement of 468,142 passengers, which means "10% more than in the first nine months of 2020". Similarly, the number of vehicles that the shipping companies operating in the port have transported on the maritime line that connects Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, amounted to 170,185 vehicles, which represents "an increase of 20% compared to those recorded in the same period of last year".

It also highlights that "99% of the passengers counted between January and September used the port infrastructure to move on the regular maritime line that connects Playa Blanca with Corralejo." On the other hand, of the total number of passengers counted between January and September 2021, "5,107 people used the port facilities on board vessels destined for leisure and recreational activities."
