The XXII Canary Islands Music Festival kicks off tomorrow, January 11th, in Lanzarote with a performance by the Polish Chamber Philarmonic Orchestra, a Polish group made up of a very dynamic group of young talents.
The concert will take place at the Santo Domingo Convent in Teguise at 9:00 PM and tickets cost 10 euros. This will be the first of the five concerts that will take place in Lanzarote as part of the program included in Other Scenarios, which is the one that takes a part of the Festival's program to the non-capital islands.
Founded by Wojciech Rajski in 1980, the Polish Chamber Philarmonic Orchestra mainly performs works by Polish composers, although the repertoire of this formation is immense and is composed of works by the most important composers of all eras.
This group has offered recitals in countries such as Sweden, Germany, France, Spain, Poland and the United Kingdom. It has been invited to the festivals of Montpellier, Prague Spring, Schleswig Holstein, European Music Week of Passau, Warsaw Autumn, Ludwigsburg, Flanders, Canary Islands and Tivoli of Copenhagen, in which the great quality of the orchestra has been recognized.
During the last years the formation has had the pleasure of performing with some of the most important world soloists such as Rostropovich, Zimmermann, Szeryng, Geringas, Frantz, Kogan, Eschenbach and Arrau.
In addition to its constant tours around the world and its appearance in countless radio and television programs in Poland and Germany, it has made recordings for the labels EMI, Claves, Le Chant du Monde, Midas and Thorofon. In the autumn of 1999, it made the longest tour in its history through the United States and Europe.
In the concert they will perform tomorrow in Lanzarote, they will perform two works by J. S. Bach, which are the 'Suite No. 1, in C major, BWV 1066' and the 'Cantata Ich habe genug, BWV 82'. They will close with a work by Shostakovich, the 'Chamber Symphony, Op. 110 A'.
