The assembly of parents of the IES César Manrique has also shown its "concern" about the changes that the Government of the Canary Islands intends to apply to the center. Although the general director of Centers and Educational Infrastructure, Ana Isabel Dorta, announced that the IES Tías will be enabled as a center for students with motor disabilities, relieving the IES César Manrique and thus denying that it will be overcrowded, the parents continue to show "doubts" about it.
In a statement, the assembly of mothers and fathers of the IES César Manrique explains that this Monday they met, together with mothers and fathers of the CEIP Capellanía de Yágabo and CEIP Argana Alta, to be informed of the Extraordinary School Council that, convened by the general director of Centers and Educational Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary Islands, took place on June 13 with the sole item on the agenda of 'Situation generated in the Center by the five groups of First of ESO for the next course'.
According to them, the full members of the School Council, the general director of Centers, the island director of Education, Mario Pérez, the area inspector, Manuel García, and the technician responsible for planning, Carmen Luz Hernández, attended. The objective was to respond to the press release in which the future overcrowding of the center was alerted.
A "calculation error" with "no response"
In this meeting, the assembly of parents of the IES César Manrique states that "it was recognized that, since November, the center was asked to make an effort to accommodate one more group of First of ESO and that the management team agreed with the Educational Inspection that four groups could be assumed temporarily for the next course".
Similarly, "the technician of the Ministry acknowledged to the School Council that they had made a calculation and planning error for which the IES César Manrique has finally been assigned two extra units of First of ESO, and not one as planned, apologizing to the entire educational community represented", point out from the assembly of parents of the IES César Manrique, from where they point out that "the administration officials present at the School Council were unable to give any response to this error"
"Being aware of the impact that this planning has on students with motor disabilities, the general director of Centers and Infrastructure announced that the IES Tías will soon become an integration center for students with motor disabilities to alleviate the pressure on the IES César Manrique", the parents point out, in the same line as what Ana Isabel Dorta had already advanced on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.
More doubts from parents "unanswered"
However, despite the explanations given, the representatives of parents of the center state that "they did not obtain answers about the criteria followed for the IES César Manrique to go from line 3 to line '4 and a half' nor about whether the decision to increase the number of groups has been taken with any other center in Arrecife for the next course", expressing their "doubts about the planning of the schooling of the capital's map".
The area inspector, Manuel García, the area inspector of the CEIP Argana Alta, Andrés González, and a technician responsible for schooling of the Vice-Ministry of Education, Francisco Rodríguez, were present at the assembly held on Monday afternoon to offer answers to this situation. However, the parents of the IES César Manrique state that "after their interventions there was only one certainty, that next year the IES César Manrique will have five groups of First of ESO, but more unanswered doubts".
Specifically, the assembly of parents asks "why the CEIP Argana Alta is assigned to the IES César Manrique if they consider it provisional for the next course". Likewise, it raises whether with the increase "to 24 groups" in the center "specific classrooms will have to be sacrificed" such as Medusa, Laboratory, etc.
Regarding the fifth group of 1st of ESO, the general director of Centers and Educational Infrastructure stated on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero that it was not yet authorized, although it had "the appearance of being so", assuring however that "just as the other groups can have up to 30 students in the classroom, this one will only have 11, However, the parents of the students also show doubts. "What happens with that half group that they say there is (between 11 and 14 students)? Will they end up completing it with the over-enrollment?", they question. They also ask if "the center meets the security measures in case of emergency".
They ask that a new center be created in Argana
On the other hand, the parents of students of the IES César Manrique "deny" Ana Isabel Dorta and state that "the pressure on the César Manrique is not two more motor students, but the assignment of a new school with two more groups for First of ESO".
They also want to highlight that "both the outgoing and incoming management teams have committed, on behalf of the entire faculty, to work with the utmost zeal to get all students ahead without distinction of any kind and, even less, by their origin, recalling that students from Argana Alta have already passed through the classrooms of the César Manrique with a very high degree of success in their studies".
However, the parents and students of the IES César Manrique consider that "the population of Argana Alta deserves from the administration that a Secondary and Baccalaureate Education center be created in their area and not that they are continually changing their assignment, since in recent years they have gone through four secondary schools"
