The Official School of Languages of Arrecife will have, starting in September, a delegated extension in the town of Puerto del Carmen. This initiative is the result of the agreement reached by the insular director of Education, Juan Cruz, with the board of directors of the Official School of Languages, EOI, and the Department of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands. The delegated extension will reduce the problem of excess demand that the language school in Arrecife registers every year.
The Secondary Education Institute of Puerto del Carmen is the place chosen to enable this language delegation, since a high number of students from the school come from the south of the island. "With this measure we have tried to facilitate access to language education, which, in the case of Lanzarote, is essential if we take into account that tourism is one of the main economic sectors of the island," commented Juan Cruz, insular director of Education.
Juan Cruz has also commented that the chosen institute is a newly built building with modern facilities in the classrooms, which will allow the application of new technologies to language studies. Classes will be taught in these facilities every Tuesday and Thursday, between six and ten in the evening.
Official language studies
The studies of a language at the Official School of Languages are developed over five years, distributed in two cycles, of three and two years, respectively. In the first years, which corresponds to the Elementary Cycle, the aim is for the student to acquire a basic level in the expression, both oral and written, of a foreign language. The Superior Cycle, which lasts two years, develops the creative capacity of the student in the use of a non-native language.
