The Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, a center attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, presented this Tuesday, the 28th, the painting Peace in the Midst of the Storm, a work donated by the Association of Oncohematological Families of Lanzarote (AFOL), to decorate the space destined for the linear accelerator of the Radiation Oncology area of the hospital center.
The event was attended by the manager of the Lanzarote Health Services, Pablo Eguia, the head of the Radiation Oncology service, Marta Lloret, the management team and the president of AFOL, Carmen Arrocha, as well as the author of the work, Iván T., and patients and hospital workers.
The painting, made with acrylic technique on wood, has been placed at the entrance of the radiotherapy bunker with the aim that its colors bring to the space a more friendly character, contributing to improve the stay of patients during treatment.
Peace in the Midst of the Storm is inspired by the image of AFOL and integrates all the elements of its logo. According to its author, “the images recreate the journey of a sailboat that crosses a storm to then enter a calm sea and reach a luminous shore, with a volcanic landscape tinged by the colors of a cactus and the intense sun”.
Marta Lloret thanked AFOL for contributing with this donation to humanize hospital spaces. She also stressed that this is one more example of the work that the association does for patients and its commitment to ensuring that they are accompanied and in a closer and less hostile environment.
For her part, Carmen Arrocha expressed her satisfaction for being present in the Radiation Oncology Unit through this painting that illustrates the support and commitment of the entity with cancer patients in Lanzarote, by contributing to making the hospital space more friendly to those who must undergo radiation therapy treatments.
Qualitative leap
The Radiation Oncology Unit of the Molina Orosa Hospital began operating on December 13 and has meant a qualitative leap in healthcare, since it brings treatment closer and allows comprehensive care in Lanzarote for patients, with the consequent improvement in quality of life and comfort.
The Unit is attended by the team of twenty-one Radiation Oncology specialists who travel from the Dr. Negrín University Hospital. A group composed of professionals specialized in qualified nursing, three radiotherapy technicians, two administrative assistants and the physicists, who supervise the correct functioning of the accelerator.
