The Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital registered in 2025 a total of 10,734 hospital admissions, 13,047 surgical interventions and 311,005 consultations, in addition to 68,391 diagnostic tests, which represents a general increase in healthcare activity compared to the previous year.
The 13,047 surgical interventions performed in 2025 at the Lanzarote hospital represent an increase of more than 15% in surgical activity. Among them, those carried out by the services of General and Digestive Surgery and Ophthalmology stand out, which together concentrate more than half of the interventions performed. Likewise, the increase in activity in Otorhinolaryngology and Urology is noteworthy, the latter service increasing its activity by 33%, reaching 1,035 interventions.
More consultations and diagnostic tests
Regarding the 311,005 consultations attended during the past year, 237,704 were carried out by specialist physicians with an eight percent growth compared to the previous year. On the other hand, 56,057 consultations were attended by nursing professionals, 7,799 corresponded to the area of Psychology, to which are added the 9,445 consultations carried out by other healthcare services.
Regarding diagnostic tests, it is worth noting the increase in activity experienced in the Digestive service, with 8,884 endoscopies performed, as well as in the Cardiology service which carried out 9,494 complementary tests throughout last year.
The activity of the Radiodiagnosis service also registered an increase close to ten percent with the 280,564 tests performed by the professionals of this service.
The Emergency Department of Molina Orosa performed, for its part, a total of 73,012 attendances, which represents a decrease of just over two percent compared to the previous year.
Regarding the Pathological Anatomy service, it analyzed during 2025 a total of 21,434 samples, which represents an increase greater than six percent compared to the previous year.
Lastly, the Rehabilitation service of the hospital center carried out last year 78,795 physiotherapy sessions and 7,431 occupational therapy sessions, also exceeding the recorded figures of past exercise.
Relevant improvements
During 2025, the University Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa incorporated Robotic Surgery and launched a new lead-lined operating room. Likewise, the Radiodiagnosis service was reinforced with the incorporation of a state-of-the-art CT scan. In addition, the new Geothermal facilities and the medical gas plant came into operation, after the significant investments made in these infrastructures.
