The Ministry of the Interior has launched a new space on the social platform Tuenti, which will allow millions of young people to have access online to advice offered by agents of the National Police and Civil Guard on security and coexistence. The "Plan Contigo" is aimed at promoting the protection of adolescents and preventing them from possible crimes, as well as bullying.
The proposal was advanced this Thursday by the sub-delegate of the Government in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Antonio Batista, who presented the Director Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of School Safety, created by the Ministries of the Interior, Education and Health, Social Policy and Equality, to the municipalities and educational community of El Hierro.
The "Director Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of School Safety" arises in the context of the agreements of the National Citizen Security Council on youth and security and the provisions of the "Agreement on Education for Improvement and Security", signed between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of the Interior.
The main objective of this measure is to bring public security services closer to the school community, in order to improve the confidence of children and young people in the State Security Forces and Corps.
In addition, it makes available to the educational community the technical assistance necessary to help prevent and address serious episodes that may threaten school coexistence. It also helps to improve the knowledge of students, parents and teachers about the security problems that affect young people.
More police surveillance
Since the first year of implementation of this program, in 2007, conferences and talks have been developed for students focused on raising awareness of the risks to their safety arising from situations of bullying, drug and alcohol use, youth gangs and xenophobia and the inappropriate use of new technologies and the Internet.
In addition, numerous meetings have been held with the educational community (center directors, teachers, parents). In addition, police surveillance in the vicinity of educational centers has been improved and a police expert in matters of minors and young people has been made available to schools, who can consult any security problem that affects them in a special way.
Prevent gender violence
Due to the success demonstrated by the plan in the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 courses, and the great demand for actions requested by the educational communities, as well as the favorable recommendations of the National Council of the Citizen Security Council, its period of validity has been extended to the school years 2009-2010 and 2010-2011.
The "Framework Agreement on Education for the Improvement of Security", signed by the Ministries of Education and the Interior, has incorporated the Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality, which has assumed commitments in terms of training and collaboration in aspects related to the prevention of the appearance in schools of behaviors prone to gender violence or any form of discrimination based on sex or sexual orientation.
