The mayor of Tías proposes the demolition of the houses burned in Puerto del Carmen

The Tías City Council proposes the demolition of the houses burned in mid-October in the tourist town of Puerto del Carmen. This was stated yesterday by José Juan Cruz Saavedra, mayor of the municipality of Tías, in statements to Radio Lanzarote.

"We have requested the corresponding reports, both technical and legal, and we have already met with the owners, although we have several more meetings planned." Although in any case, "the proposal of the Tías City Council is to demolish. We are talking about apartments that were practically 40 years old, and now with the accident they have become unusable, so the best thing for both the owners and the area is to demolish them and build new ones in their place."

Chronicle of the fire

A large fire ended up burning up to three apartments and as many commercial establishments last October 17, after it was declared at number 19 of Avenida de Las Playas de Puerto del Carmen, Tías, in front of the Hotel Fariones and, more specifically, in the vicinity of the Lanzarote Clinic.

The fire lasted for almost four hours, without any victims except for a 39-year-old firefighter who had to be transferred by ambulance to the General Hospital after suffering an electric shock while manipulating an electrical panel during the extinction of the fire.

Extraordinary plenary session

On the other hand, Cruz Saavedra highlighted that in the extraordinary plenary session held on Monday to reject the electoral reform "we unanimously supported the institutional agreement proposed by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, which asks that the triple parity be maintained, because otherwise it would leave the territorial balance in the air and limit the access to Parliament of the island political forces."

In addition, the first mayor of the southern municipality commented on the recent opening of the tourist information point in Puerto del Carmen. Tías was lucky enough to have one because "apparently the Consumer Affairs Department of the Government of the Canary Islands establishes seven points for the Canary Islands in 2005, placing one per island." The mayor explained that this point "will be connected to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs so that any resident or tourist can make a claim from the same point."

Channeling of the Calderina de Macher

A resident of Tías called the radio station to ask the mayor about the underground channeling of electricity in the Calderina de Macher. Cruz Saavedra confirmed that these days the works of burying the high-voltage line are being carried out in the town of Macher.

But as far as the Calderina is concerned, the first mayor pointed out that he is unaware that the light channeling works are being carried out there, although he assured that a piece of street that needs to be paved will be paved there shortly.
