The patron saint festivities of La Tiñosa will have the members of La Coral Marina Puerto del Carmen as speakers. The event, which will be attended by the mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, the deputy mayor, Amado Jesús Vizcaíno, and the Councilor for Festivities, Francisco Javier Aparicio Betancort, will be this Thursday, August 3, at 9:00 p.m., in the assembly hall of the El Fondeadero Civic Center.
From Monday, July 31 to Sunday, August 13, Puerto del Carmen will "celebrate its festivities in honor of the Virgen del Carmen with more than 80 activities", they have stated from the Tías City Council. Before the reading of the proclamation, the XV Domingo Robayna Memorial (Mingo) will begin at the Puerto del Carmen Football field, at 8:00 p.m., and at 10:00 p.m. the El Varadero square will host the first night of parranda with the performance of El Golpito.
One of the most special events that the Carmen festivities program has, according to the Tías Council, will arrive this Friday, the 4th, from the hand of the members of the Lanzarote Radio Amateurs Association. "On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary, the special activation through the airwaves, EG8LPC, will begin this day, and throughout the weekend, where the radio amateurs of Lanzarote will try to contact their counterparts on the five continents to commemorate, via airwaves, ephemeris that changed the economic and social course of Lanzarote, through the tourist activity that had its embryo in the coastal town of La Tiñosa and gave rise to Puerto del Carmen", they have stated from the Tías City Council.
The swim will take place on Sunday
On Friday night there will be the Habaneras Choir meeting in El Fondeadero, at 8:00 p.m., while at 9:30 p.m. the El Varadero square will be the stage for the first edition of the Miss Gay Tourism Puerto del Carmen contest, with the performance of Nacha la Macha. The gala will be directed by Puerto del Carmen resident Aytami Domínguez Sosa. The applicants compete in two modalities, according to their sizes: five compete in XL and eleven in the S category.
On Saturday the 5th, the elderly and residents of Puerto del Carmen will take an excursion to the Ermita de las Nieves (Teguise), as this day is its celebration. At night there will be the Folklore Encounter with the performances of Güerma, from Lanzarote, and La Oliva, from Fuerteventura.
On Sunday, August 6, the Puerto del Carmen swim will be held, the sixth event of the VIII Open Water Swimming Cup of Lanzarote. The different departures will be given from 12:30 p.m. "This test maintains its only modality as in previous editions, having a distance of 1,200 meters for the children's, junior and master categories and whose departure will be given at 12:50 p.m.", they explained from the City Council. In addition, according to the Consistory, "there will be a distance of 50 meters for prebenjamines, 400 meters for benjamines, which will leave at 12:30 p.m., and 800 meters for the children's category, whose starting gun will be given at 12:40 p.m.".
The maritime procession will be held on the 12th at 6:00 p.m.
On Sunday, the 6th, at 10:30 a.m., the program of the Puerto del Carmen 2017 Festivities Commission, sponsored by the Tías City Council, includes the Women's Recreational Meeting; at 12:30 p.m., the Swim from Playa Grande, and at night the humor will arrive at the El Varadero square, with the performances of Kike Pérez, and the musical comedy show by Almudena and Raúl.
One of the great expected events is the maritime procession with the image of the Virgen de Puerto del Carmen, which will take place on Saturday, August 12, at 6:00 p.m. At night, there will be a special concert with performances by the bands Treintaytantos and Salvapantallas.
On Sunday, the 13th, the last day of festivities, the sung mass and subsequent land procession will be at 7:00 p.m. The night will conclude with a special performance by Chago Melián and his show Entre Cuerdas, at 9:00 p.m., and the great fireworks display, at 11:00 p.m. "During these two intense weeks of festivities, many sports, recreational, cultural and leisure activities will be organized in parallel for children, young people and adults", they have stated from the City Council of the municipality.
In the year in which the area has won the Isla de Lanzarote Award
During the presentation of the program, the mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, highlighted that "from the Tías City Council, with the valuable collaboration of the Festivities Commission, an intense program of musical, sports, cultural events has been programmed where they are closely linked to the traditions and the new approaches that youth demand for their festivities, such as the concert by the group La Guardia, or Salvapantallas, together with the music of the islands in the Folklore Encounter. The jolateros and chalana regattas, the swim and the Quíquere Race return. This year we will have one of the great voices of the Canary Islands, the performance of Chago Melián, and we are already savoring the great sancocho, and we pamper the expected maritime and land processions, which are part of the more than eighty events that we are going to have where I hope that the residents and visitors enjoy".
The deputy mayor and Councilor for Tourism, Amado Vizcaíno, originally from the town of La Tiñosa, recalled that this 2017 is more special for the town. "These are the festivities where we are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the origin of Puerto del Carmen, together with La Tiñosa, as the first tourist area of Lanzarote. Festivities that we celebrate with the pride of achieving, in this year, being the Isla de Lanzarote Award for Tourism of Lanzarote, precisely for the effort, help and attention that our ancestors had with the first tourists who arrived here, on the island, half a century ago".
For his part, Francisco Javier Aparicio Betancort, Councilor for Festivities, highlighted that "the youth and those generations that have a special memory of good band music in the past will greatly enjoy the special concert by La Guardia, in the El Varadero square, which this year we have incorporated into the eighty musical, sports, cultural and leisure proposals that have been programmed jointly by the Festivities Commission and the Tías City Council. I am especially pleased that on Saturday, August 12, International Youth Day, we have incorporated a special day dedicated within the festivities to our young people".
