The Island Library will host a reading marathon

To mark Book Day, April 23, the Lanzarote Island Library will hold a reading marathon. Fernando Morales, director of the Library, explained on the Buenos Días de Radio Lanzarote program, that from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., uninterruptedly, anyone who wants to has the opportunity to read a text, in any language and aloud, before the people who gather at the Library. There are already more than 100 registered in the morning, including schools, etc., and more than 50 in the afternoon.

"It is very interesting to be able to listen to other people read, to pay attention to the intonation, and at the same time it is intended to create an atmosphere of debate about those texts," says Morales.

Those who are interested in participating in the marathon can do so by calling the Island Library at 928 813950 or stopping by this place.

Also, two storytelling sessions have been organized. One at 12:00 noon aimed at the little ones and another at 6:00 p.m. for adults.

In addition, those who come to the Library will be given a flower and a book. This marathon has been organized together with the Pancho Lasso Art School.

The Island Library

Currently, the Island Library has about 11,000 members and Morales highlights as strengths, both the facilities (information room, press room, etc.) and the availability of schedules, since on weekends the study rooms and the press room are available to users.

This 2008, the loan of DVDs, CDs and books has been added to that of magazines. Also, among the projects, the director explains that they intend to organize activities related to books aimed at the little ones, so that "parents can bring children here." In this way, from the Library they intend that "the child knows that the book is a friend, that it is not boring."

Regarding acquisitions, Morales points out that they try to "cover a little of everything." "We are looking at what is coming out, and we try to have a little of everything, but it is difficult because we do not always buy to everyone's taste," he indicates. Similarly, he highlights that although they do not have "a very large budget" the most significant titles are the ones they try to ensure are not missing from the catalog. For the last purchase, 24,000 euros were allocated and in this way more than 3,000 new titles were added to the archive.
