The institutions of Lanzarote observed a minute of silence this Thursday in memory of the victims of gender violence, thus commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is celebrated every November 25.
The Cabildo of Lanzarote, the town councils of Yaiza, San Bartolomé, Tías and Arrecife and the Island Delegation of the Government have been some of the institutions that have shown respect for the victims with this symbolic act. In addition, Comisiones Obreras held a small commemorative act in the José Ramírez Cerdá Park.
From the Island Corporation they recall that throughout this year 2021, a total of 362 women have been attended in the Insular Network for Attention to Women Victims of Gender Violence of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
The Cabildo adds that together with these dramatic figures of gender violence, there are also "other worrying data regarding the rest of sexist violence", especially those "that threaten the sexual freedom of girls, young people and women." According to their results, one in two women has suffered some type of sexist violence in our country and almost three have suffered physical and/or sexual violence from their current or past partner.
