The "Ecoáreas Mardetodos" and "Buenamar" projects, promoted by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, and co-financed with European Regional Development Funds (Feder), will pay tribute to the fishermen of La Cofradía de La Tiñosa next Monday.
The event, which will take place from 8:00 p.m. at the Fondeadero, has been developed with the collaboration of the Tías City Council, the promoters of the ZeConsciente Project and other associations in the area, in addition to the Association itself.
The event, which is celebrated within the framework of the Puerto del Carmen festivities in Honor of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, consists of the tribute gala "In honor of our own", a photography exhibition and the screening of a documentary. With it, "the importance of fishermen for the revitalization and preservation of environmental values and the fishing history of La Tiñosa" is recognized, according to the Government of the Canary Islands.
"Fishing is part of the essence of the municipality of Tías, and has been an important engine for the development of economic, social and cultural activity in the area. The role of the La Tiñosa Fishermen's Association has been key to the preservation of the coastline and fishing values and to the development of life and commercial and cultural activity. With this tribute, we want to thank them for their contribution to the marine wealth of the area and its sustainable future,” said the General Director of Planning and Tourism Promotion, Ciprián Rivas, who is in charge of opening and delivering the certificates of recognition to the driving group.
In parallel, an exhibition of old photographs, provided by the Sociocultural Association for the Historical Fishing Memory of Lanzarote 'Ángel Díaz', will review the fishing tradition and culture of La Tiñosa. In addition, a documentary prepared by the La Tiñosa Fishermen's Association itself will be screened.
The Playa Chica – La Tiñosa Eco-area joined the Canary Islands Network of Coastal Ecotourism Areas last June. During the last months, the driving group and the dynamizers of the department led by Yaiza Castilla, responsible for the project, have worked, together with the fishermen and other agents in the area, "on carrying out a diagnosis of the values and needs, and in the configuration of a schedule of sustainable revitalization actions." This tribute gala and exhibition constitute the first of these.
About "Ecoáreas Mardetodos" and "Buenamar"
The "Ecoáreas Mardetodos" project, co-financed with ERDF funds, is an innovative blue economy initiative and a commitment by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands "for sustainable and quality tourism, based on the conservation of natural and cultural heritage."
Each eco-area is a recognition of an area of excellence in ecotourism sustainability and is based on the promotion of initiatives and objectives under the principles of participation through horizontal management. Currently, the Network of Eco-areas in the Canary Islands is in the process of incorporating 16 coastal spaces on the eight islands.
For its part, the "Buenamar Canarias" Tourism Product Club promotes the enhancement of the small-scale artisanal fishing sector as an innovative tourism product based on tradition and the sustainable practices of sailors.
