The Hospital has 292 hospital beds, nine operating rooms, five delivery rooms and 52 outpatient clinics. Since 2021 it has had the status of University and currently trains 59 resident doctors and nurses
The Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, a center attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, celebrates its 35th anniversary this year and, on the occasion of this celebration, brought together this Monday 58 professionals who were part of the first team that inaugurated the center and who are still developing their activity in it.
In the commemorative meeting, the workers who were part of the hospital's opening staff and who are still active, have been accompanied by the manager of the Health Services, Pablo Eguia, and by the management team of the center.
The Hospital was inaugurated on April 14, 1989, after the transfer from the Nuestra Señora de los Volcanes residence to new and modern facilities to offer a better service to the citizens of Lanzarote. The first medical director of the hospital was Bernardino Güemes and the first director of Nursing was Berta Robayna.
For more than three decades of activity, the Molina Orosa has been expanding its portfolio of services, has improved and adapted its infrastructures, and has multiplied the number of workers by ten. Compared to the two hundred people who started the center 35 years ago, the hospital's staff currently consists of about 2,000 professionals.
Technological resources, clinical and management innovations have also been gradually incorporated since then. The center has experienced a constant process of change to achieve the highest quality of care and become a modern hospital with cutting-edge technology and a wide range of services.
Improving the quality of care
From radiodiagnostic equipment such as resonance and scanner, the creation of the ICU, the wide catalog of functional tests, modern laboratories, day hospitals, the pathological anatomy unit, the pediatric ICU, vascular surgery, to the newly opened Hemodynamics and Radiotherapy Oncology units, the Molina Orosa continues to be immersed in a process of improving the quality of care.
The Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital currently has 292 hospital beds, nine operating rooms, five delivery rooms and 52 outpatient clinics. Since 2021 it has had the status of University and currently trains 59 resident doctors and nurses.
On the occasion of this celebration, Pablo Eguía has pointed out the commitment and willingness of the professionals who have passed through the Hospital during all this time, "on this anniversary, for all of them, gratitude is imposed for the work they provide, which humanizes and gives character to our hospital, and congratulations for fulfilling another year at the service of health in Lanzarote"
