The Costa Teguise water park and Spar will carry out a campaign to help Xiomara, the girl with a vision condition

The Costa Teguise aquapark and Spar are collaborating in a campaign to raise funds for Xiomara, the seven-year-old from Lanzarote who suffers from a serious eye condition and will have to face a new operation on both eyes in September in Barcelona. The initiative will take place on the weekend of June 28 and 29 and, for each ticket, which costs 10 euros, three euros will be donated to help the little girl with her intervention, valued at 2,980 euros, and her recovery.

Tickets have gone on sale in the Spar and Eurospar stores in Arrecife, in the Eurospar stores in Mácher and Costa Teguise, and also in the supermarket in Nazaret and Trébol, in Costa Teguise. However, they can also be purchased at the aquapark. In addition, a raffle and a charity flea market have been organized on the esplanade at the entrance to the park, which will take place on the 29th.

"The solidarity came as a surprise and I can't believe it"

The collection will be given to Paloma, Xiomara's mother, in an act for which there is still no date. Paloma "does not believe" all the help she is receiving from the people of Lanzarote since she made her daughter's case public. "I'm not coming down from the cloud, I'm super grateful to everyone. I didn't expect so much help, because the doctors and health centers were turning their backs on me. The solidarity came as a surprise and I can't believe it," she said.

Xiomara has already faced an operation in a private clinic, in Barcelona, to which she went with her parents, after the Social Security considered that the intervention "was not advisable". According to her mother, the girl has already recovered a large part of her vision with this first operation. "I notice it, the teacher notices it, everyone notices it. The girl is without glasses and does the same as she did with glasses," said Paloma.

For this first intervention, the solidarity of the people of Lanzarote was already necessary, who deposited 3,680 euros in Paloma's current account, to which must be added the help of 3,000 euros from the Cabildo and that of Arrecife, of the same amount. In addition, the Altavista association also wanted to help with 220 euros. With all this money, this mother can also face the "expensive" treatment that the girl has "to avoid risks", since in Lanzarote "there is no ophthalmologist capable of assessing the girl's eyes".

Second intervention in September

Xiomara will have to continue with the treatment, at least, until September, when she faces the second operation in Barcelona. "The intervention is valued at 2,980 euros and will be on both eyes for strabismus on September 2. Then every six months you have to go to the clinic and pay for treatment," she explained. With the money raised in the Spar campaign and the Costa Teguise aquapark, Paloma hopes to be able to financially face this intervention.
