The copla "Amaranto", by Juan Luis from Breña Alta, was proclaimed the winner of the Guanapay Coplas Contest. The second prize went to "Coplas a César Manrique", by Juan Rojas Bolaños from Lanzarote, while the special mention went to "Mi Lanzarote querida", by Lucia Martín Duarte from Lanzarote.
The jury's decision was announced on Friday the 6th in an evening where Canarian music and dances were the protagonists in the Santo Domingo convent, in the Villa de Teguise, where not a single chair was left empty.
Organized by the Guanapay folk group, the evening was divided into three parts. The first was dedicated to the timple, by three young timple players: Gabriel García from Lanzarote, Anathael Diaz from Gran Canaria and José Vicente Pérez. The three were accompanied by their guitarists and were highly applauded by the audience.
The second part was marked by the organizing group Guanapay, who filled the night with their songs and dances. The audience was so engaged that they interrupted some dances with applause. The third part was taken by the II Polkas Recital, where the soloists' boldness brought smiles to the audience's faces. The night ended with an isa parrandera in which all the guests participated.
As a curiosity, at the beginning of the meeting, the members of Guanapay presented the attendees with a bag containing the program and, to whet their appetites, some handmade sweets, mantecados, mamín breads and roscos.
Once again, Guanapay set the bar very high and the public responded not only with their attendance but also with their applause.
