Hundreds of people gathered this Wednesday in Mancha Blanca to enjoy the proclamation of the Fiestas de Los Dolores. An act that featured the members of Civil Protection of Tinajo, who were publicly thanked for their sacrifice, dedication and all the work they have been doing selflessly, especially in the most difficult moments of the pandemic where they did not hesitate to make themselves available to the neighbors.
The event was attended by the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, the president of the Island Council, María Dolores Corujo, the rector of the sanctuary, Don Francisco García Socorro, the Councilor for Festivities of Tinajo, Jonatan Pérez, different mayors of the island, councilors, advisors and the different public officials that make up the municipal corporation.
"I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of the people who make up Civil Protection of Tinajo. They have always been helping the neighbors when they have needed it, without asking for anything in return and giving the best as great people that they are. Today we wanted to pay tribute to them and publicly recognize all the work they do. Thanks to you we have been overcoming the most difficult moments of the pandemic and I don't know what Tinajo would have been without you. Thank you, thank you and thank you," said the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín.
After the initial greetings, a video was shown with some images in which you could see a small part of all the work done by the members of Civil Protection. Later they were given a small gift and all the attendees were able to enjoy a musical performance by the Trio composed of Alexis Lemes and the young soloist Elieser Betancort.
"As Councilor for Festivities, I am proud to be part of the organization of the festivities and this proclamation. Civil Protection of Tinajo deserves this tribute, not only from the institution but from the entire society on one of the most important days for the island. I hope you enjoy the program and that the patron saint of Lanzarote fulfills our best wishes," said the councilor Jonatan Pérez.
Finally, and in compliance with tradition, the floral offering to the Virgin was carried out inside the hermitage by the parish priest of Tinajo, the mayor and the president of the Cabildo, thus ending a day that will become part of the municipality of Tinajo and Lanzarote.
