Seven children's murgas competed on Sunday night in a gala held at the Arrecife fairgrounds. In front of a large audience, the little ones made the adults enjoy themselves. In the contest, three awards were given out: the Buche Award, the Design Award and the Presentation Award. The murga Los Chau Chau finally won the Buche award, while Los Intoxicaditos won the Design and Presentation awards.
The difficult task of deciding who would be the winners fell this year to a jury composed of Cristina Duque, psychologist, Esther Betancort, singer, Arantza Unsain, event organizer, Cristina González, fashion consultant, José Angel, actor, Desiré Rodríguez, singer of Nueva Estela, Nita Borges, secretary of the jury and Jasmina Ruiz as responsible for the murgas. While the jury's deliberation was taking place, Andrea Luzardo, winner of Vive tu voz II, performed with her first single on the market, "Olvídalo", with the ballet of Luismi, winner of Vive tu aire Show Disney.
Local authorities also attended the event. The Arrecife councilors Samuel Martín and Tomás Fajardo were in charge of presenting the Buche Award to the Chau Chau murga, while the costume, design and fantasy award went to Los Intoxicaditos from the Councilor for Festivities, Zebensuí Rodríguez Álvarez. For his part, the mayor Jose Montelongo presented the Presentation award, also to Los Intoxicaditos.
Participating Murgas
The murgas that participated were a total of 7. Los Guacimetitos, a group that has 26 members, were born in 2003 in Playa Honda and in 2004 they became a children's cultural association. Their director is Naziza Fonseca and the president, Marga Fernández. This year they presented themselves with the fantasy of "Fenix Renacer", designed by Bicole designs.
Los Gorfinijos are 45 members and were born from the association and murga Los Gorfines. It was created in 2004 by the late Ambrosio Cabrera. Its president is Alberto Faleroy, its director is Ayoze Luis and the musical director is Alfonso Duro Cabezón. They wore the fantasy "Carnival seen for sentencing", designed by Óscar Rodríguez.
Los Intoxicaditos has 55 members, it was created in 1995 in the neighborhood of Valterra. Its director is Francis Gracia and Domingo Marrero is the president. This year they presented themselves with the design "Ños pedazo aguijón", designed by Francis García. Last year they were winners of the presentation and Buche award.
Los Retoñitos also participated, which has 32 members. They were born in 2009 in San Bartolomé; their president is Romi García, the director is Ibaya Camejo and they presented themselves with a fantasy entitled "Spicy latitude 29", designed by Manuel Camejo. Last year they won the design and fantasy award.
For their part, los Titinijos have 35 members. They were born in 2014 with their president and director Yanesey. Their fantasy this year was "Cuts in education, clowns by profession", designed by Carmelo Minguelez.
The children's murga Abandonaditos, with 23 members and just two months of life, also participated in the contest. This group, from the neighborhood of Argana Alta, is directed by Rubén Carlos Cabrera and its president is María de los Ángeles. They competed with the fantasy "As we don't know what we are about, we skip the fantasy", designed by the murga itself.
The children's murga Los Chau Chau, with 47 members, is from the neighborhood of Valterra and was born in 2006. Two children from Los Desahuciados could not say the name and called them ChauChau. Its director is Alexis Hernández, the president is Pedro Hernández. Their fantasy was "Corsairs of Carnival", designed by Samuel Hernández.
