The X Folklore Encounter "Celestino Arráez Memorial" began this Thursday, August 28, with the mazurka "Looking at the Horizon" by the group "Guadarfía" from San Bartolomé. After 30 years of experience and with four albums behind them, its 30 members, including the dance troupe, were directed by Tito Perera.
Later, the verses of José Domingo de León and his grandson Tinguaro, as well as Marisol Viñoly, evoked the memory of Celestino Arráez, the precursor of folklore in the northern town. The troubadour from Órzola, Domingo de León, also alluded in his recital to the tragic event that occurred recently on La Cantería beach, where a young man died devoured by the waves. For her part, Marisol Viñoly gave a sketch of Celestino and his mother, Luzmarina, who died a few years ago.
The eight members of the group "Chimia" were the next to take the stage with a Canary Island parrandera isa entitled "Isa a Candidito", in which the entire audience participated with their palms and accompanied them in the choruses.
Finally, the Parranda Marinera de Órzola began with "Somos Costeros". This parranda was founded by the honored Celestino Arráez and although it has been going on for 22 years, it has not yet recorded any album with its best-known songs.
Presented by Radio Lanzarote announcer, Francisco José Navarro, the meeting filled the El Caletón sociocultural center in Órzola, where commemorative plaques and various gifts were also given to the participants, including the presenter, who received, in his words, "a precious" relief of a Tara of femininity.
