The Casa Museo del Timple will be filled with carnival tradition this month. This Tuesday, the new program for 2016 was presented, which dedicates an important space to the traditions of the carnival festivities in the archipelago. February will have the Diabletes de Teguise as hosts and will feature the visit of Los Buches de Arrecife, Los toros de Tao, the Mataculebra de Tenerife, Los Cabritos and the Diablo de la Aldea de San Nicolás, the Sansusino de Garachico, Los Indianos de La Palma, as well as groups and parrandas that will fill this month with music and tradition, specifically on February 18 and 19, days on which a round table and several exhibitions will be held.
The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted the importance of "positioning a different Carnival so that tourists and residents can breathe new sensations." "We are in a new era of the Casa Museo del Timple de Teguise, which will turn the municipality into the Cultural Embassy of the Canary Islands," Betancort said.
The details of the new 2016 activities program were announced this Tuesday in the Casa Museo del Timple room in the Villa de Teguise, in an event that was attended by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, María Teresa Lorenzo, as well as the Minister of Culture of the Island Council, Óscar Pérez, the Councilor for Culture of Teguise, Olivia Duque, the curator of the Casa Museo, Benito Cabrera, and representatives of the collaborating companies: Binter, Cicar and Apartamentos Santa Rosa.
The regional minister congratulated Teguise for "its clear commitment to preserving our heritage and launching interesting proposals that represent our culture, our origins," said María Teresa Lorenzo.
The head of Culture at the island level, Óscar Pérez, highlighted for his part "the magnificent work that is being carried out in terms of Canarian culture in Teguise", a municipality that he promised to continue supporting from his council.
In this sense, the councilor of the area, Olivia Duque, thanked the support of institutions such as the Cabildo or the Government of the Canary Islands, but also thanked the collaboration of private companies that make this project possible. Likewise, she promised to involve young people in the traditions, "so we will integrate the children of the municipality's schools into the traditional Carnival of Teguise," declared Olivia Duque.
